New WYES series brings coastal concerns into focus

This hurricane season, the threats to Louisiana’s coastal communities once again come into focus – not just more frequent and ferocious storms, but also the combination of climate change, land erosion, subsidence and sea level rise.

Louisiana is confronting these problems with strategic planning involving land building and community relocation, while nurturing the development of industries focused on coastal preservation, sustainability and alternative energy resources.

A new WYES multi-part series, “Challenges and Opportunities: The Louisiana Coast,” focuses on these issues, beginning with the state’s updated Coastal Master Plan. Premieres Wednesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. on WYES -TV and wyes .org/live.
