Now Captain of Celebrity Beyond, Kate McCue was the first female captain of a mega cruise ship, first appointed in 2015.

So, it’s fitting that her collaboration with Dune Jewelry includes meaningful sand and stones, incorporating rainbow moonstone, which is believed to safeguard sailors. The Captain Kate x Dune Jewelry Collection features close to 50 pieces of nautical-themed jewelry including charms, bracelets, earrings, rings and necklaces set in sterling silver and 14k gold vermeil.

“This collection reflects Captain Kate’s adventurous spirit and resilience, allowing customers to celebrate their own unique journeys and experiences,” said Holly Daniels Christensen, founder of Dune Jewelry.

Gulf of Mexico Alliance partners with Audubon to support coastal bird conservation efforts

Warmer weather means that more people and birds are headed to the beach. Many of the birds that nest on coastal beaches, including terns and plovers, are in trouble because of habitat loss and disturbance by people.
To help protect these vulnerable birds in coastal Louisiana, the Gulf of Mexico Alliance has funded a project through the Gulf Star Program that supports work by the National Audubon Society. Activities include education, outreach and bird monitoring.
Want to do your part? Stay out of bird nesting areas, keep pets on a leash, and pick up trash you see on the beach.

New WYES series brings coastal concerns into focus

This hurricane season, the threats to Louisiana’s coastal communities once again come into focus – not just more frequent and ferocious storms, but also the combination of climate change, land erosion, subsidence and sea level rise.

Louisiana is confronting these problems with strategic planning involving land building and community relocation, while nurturing the development of industries focused on coastal preservation, sustainability and alternative energy resources.

A new WYES multi-part series, “Challenges and Opportunities: The Louisiana Coast,” focuses on these issues, beginning with the state’s updated Coastal Master Plan. Premieres Wednesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. on WYES -TV and wyes .org/live.

Chill out in laidback Oceanside, California

It’s been called the most authentic surfer town in southern California. Oceanside combines a laidback vibe with upscale hotels, vibrant dining and a walkable downtown.

We drove from Los Angeles (90 minutes, 45 from San Diego) to spend a weekend kayaking, biking, dining on seafood and enjoying a beach environment worlds different from East Coast beaches.

Our Dreamscape Suite at the Mission Pacific Beach Resort lived up to its name with a huge seating area, spacious bathroom and large balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The weather is so perfect, its slogan in 1953 was “Where the mercury never goes crazy.”
